Why The Summer I Turned Pretty Has Us All in a Chokehold

Season 3 of TSITP has come out swinging and we are all feeling the emotional tug!! The online chatter, memes and fan speculation feel like they’ve turned up to a fever pitch this time around, and as a fan of the show from the get-go, I find myself wondering, ‘what is it about this season that feels so different?’

You could first draw the conclusion that since it’s the last and final season of the show (and all of us know it) we’re experiencing a much deeper and more finalized anticipation of the ending. Who will Belly pick? Will it be Conrad or Jeremiah? The suspense is killing us; this is it guys!

The second thing to note is the way Amazon Prime has been releasing the episodes. Many people got into the show in the downtime in between season release dates, so their experience was a full-on binge. They got out the popcorn and buckled up for about 2 full days of Cousins Beach. But by now, the fandom has grown, and we are all experiencing a weekly episode release cadence in real time, creating a whole 7 day window to engage on socials, state our predictions, and have heated debates about whether or not ‘THEY WERE ON A BREAK’ [cue Ross Gellar audio].

TikTok fan edits are popping off and even brands want in on the action, taking to socials to chime in on the conversation through moodboards, TSITP inspired shopping guides, and memes:

The girlies are banning together and making The Summer I Turned Pretty into The Summer We All Hated Jeremiah. People of all ages are highly invested, and it feels so good. The memes are on fire. Conrad’s stylist needs a raise. There’s chatter about the use of color in the show and possible easter eggs in the set design or the dialogue. Maybe it just feels good to have a cultural event, a community moment for us all to get behind… no matter the reasoning, I’m here for it.

Before the first two episodes dropped, our team attended the official The Summer I Turned Pretty screening, held at Bryant Park in NYC. We had the BEST time and even though it was about 100 degrees that day, the vibes were great, and we stuck it out to get a glimpse of the cast IRL. Love that we can all bond over this show!!! Here’s a look at the event:
